(Making of) The Dreaming

Image
The Dreaming The Dreaming Chloe and I planned this shoot in just over a week, and given the scale of my shoots (particularly the styling, props and accessories I like to include) I was both nervous and excited at the challenge of pulling it off at short notice. It helped that Chloe had sorted the outfit and suggested a location, so I only needed to think about any accessories and props I wanted to add.  Moodboards I hastily put together some moodboards, exploring different ideas, colour schemes and concepts for the shoot. I wanted to capture an otherworldly vibe, something ethereal and dreamlike and was definitely leaning towards something soft, with pink tones and lots of light, hoping the weather would be kind. The Dreaming Chloe had a stunning, long white wig she suggested for the shoot which she aptly described as her ‘Daenerys wig’ which gave me strong elf/fantasy vibes. I had snagged a bargain on an eleven style tiara a few weeks back when browsing eBay, which was not due to arri

(Making of) The Raven Queen

Image
The Raven Queen The Raven Queen These images were captured during the second half of my shoot with the incredible sister team, Meg and Jen, where we switched the styling, make up and location! This second location, Roche Rock, is one of those places I'd always intended to scout out, but due to my chronic lack of time I never actually got the chance to. I knew it'd make for a fantastic backdrop, but I had no idea how accessible it was or the exact route to get there.  The Raven Queen Thankfully, we found it fairly easily, although actually getting to it was an interesting leap of faith as the side we gambled on walking ended up being much steeper and more uneven than expected. At least I know for next time but lugging all our gear was a challenge, especially in the blazing afternoon sun! But we made it and my goodness, Roche Rock is even more stunning in person, easily a new favourite shooting location. The Raven Queen Jen had brought along an intricate birdcage, which made for

(Making of) Fae of the Forest

Fae of the Forest Fae of the Forest Long time, no post... been busy with the day job these past few months (#essentialworker), thanks to the "C"-word, which has taken a whole new meaning in 2020! As restrictions have eased, and I've had more time/energy, I have started to rebook shoots which had to be postponed before lockdown hit in March as well as booking in new shoots. Fae of the Forest It felt so good to get behind the camera again, and with such a fab team. The model, Meg, and the makeup artist, Jen, are sisters, who are bubbling, which meant there was no need for social distancing between them. They were both such fun to work with, and brought so much energy and ideas to the shoot. I've been so lucky with all my shoots to have such skilled and creative teams to work with, all bringing that 'something special' to each shoot. Fae of the Forest We met in one of my favourite locations, Menacuddle Well,  the location I used on my last shoot  for the first l

(Making of) Forest Queen

Forest Queen Forest Queen They say three is a lucky number... well, this was my third shoot of the year and I'd say luck was on my side! A fabulous team, no rain and some of my favourite images from my shoots so far.  Emma was one of the first models to contact me about shooting together and we'd been planning it for a while so I was super hyped when the day finally came around. The weather had been threatening all week (again!) and I was dreading having to cancel last minute but thankfully, it remained dry all the way through! The rain did eventually come down, but not until we were long finished (thank you weather gods!) I was so fortunate to be able to work with Najat once again, an incredible make-up aritst, fabulous assistant and overall genuinely lovely person! She is such a joy to work with, even more so as our creative tastes seem to very closely align! Najat and Emma came to my flat for the make-up and wardrobe as the location is only a few minutes dr

(Making of) Loving Wish

Image
L o v i n g  W i s h Loving Wish My second shoot came around quickly, even more so as it was organised within the days leading up to the shoot. The lovely Najat, who I've worked with on a previous shoot, asked if I would like to shoot with her and the model Red Southwood on that coming Sunday. I very happily accepted and we got to planning... We discussed something fairy tale-esque, with a dark gown and cape in a coastal/forest setting. But, it was not meant to be as yet another storm was due, forecast to be worse than the previous and hitting right at the peak time of shooting. I feared we'd have to cancel and we all searched for a suitable indoor (or at least inland) location as an alternative, struggling to find anything suited to our theme. We were extremely fortunate that Najat was able to secure an indoor location for us to work in. A family friend very generously offered the use of their wooden barn. It had no electricity (and therefore no heating), limited na

S i r e n  o f  t h e  S e a   P a r t  I  &  I I  After a long (and unintentional) break from photography, focusing my free time on illustration instead, I recently decided I wanted to get back into it. My real passion is creative fashion/beauty photography, which I haven't had the opportunity to do since I moved to the South West. Deciding this year I needed to change that, I joined a local model, MUA and photographer group and reached out, to see if anyone would be interested in working with me. I was overwhelmed with the positive response, inundated with messages from creatives all over the county (and across the border) interested in collaborating. Moodboard for first look, credits: Unknown, Donny Zavala, James Meakin, Julie Paisley, Bruno Aveillan, Aleksandra, mlepictures, Unknown, Irene Rudnyk I immediately got to planning and booking in shoots, curating moodboards and scouting locations and sourcing clothing and accessories. My love for fantasy and
