(Making of) Fae of the Forest
Fae of the Forest
Fae of the Forest |
Long time, no post... been busy with the day job these past few months (#essentialworker), thanks to the "C"-word, which has taken a whole new meaning in 2020! As restrictions have eased, and I've had more time/energy, I have started to rebook shoots which had to be postponed before lockdown hit in March as well as booking in new shoots.
Fae of the Forest
It felt so good to get behind the camera again, and with such a fab team. The model, Meg, and the makeup artist, Jen, are sisters, who are bubbling, which meant there was no need for social distancing between them. They were both such fun to work with, and brought so much energy and ideas to the shoot. I've been so lucky with all my shoots to have such skilled and creative teams to work with, all bringing that 'something special' to each shoot.

We met in one of my favourite locations, Menacuddle Well, the location I used on my last shoot for the first looks. It's a beautiful place, and exactly the right backdrop for the aesthetic we were aiming for. My trusty white cape came in handy and Jen had brought a selection of props and accessories to add to the look.

Meg was a natural in front of the camera and so easygoing, willing to wade straight into the river and doing it faster (and more elegantly!) than I could. She had styled her hair for the shoot, which looked incredible and worked so well for both of the looks we shot.

It was verging on unbearably hot, a stark change from the freezing February when I last shot here. The bonus of this was the model's patience for me to wade into the river myself to get shots in the water, up against the waterfall. Walking through the river with all my gear was a challenge, but it definitely helped with the heat of the day and the shots we got made it all more than worth it.

I brought out my trusty crystal for a few shots, the sun providing plenty of direct light to bounce and reflect. I also had my portable ringlight (working this time!), so I could utilise that as and when I needed it but I relied more on my reflector which Jen kindly assisted with.
We finished up with my favourite shot, the idea of posing on the bridge suggested by Jen. We wrapped the first look at this point and retreated to the shade of our respective cars. I reviewed the images whilst sat in my camera, enjoying a cup of coffee Meg and Jen had kindly made for me, whilst Jen worked on the second makeup look. We then headed on the next location, the stunning Roche Rock.
